When this event first surfaced, the internet was blowing up. Some people are still trying to figure out what is going on between the two, whether it’s the old drama with Bieber or whether Hailey and her minions are real life mean girls.
Here’s a quick history to bring you up to date:
Selena and Hailey go way back, way before Hailey married Justin or before him and Selena called it quits.
Here’s the main issue: Bieber. Both women had long and complex relationships with this Canadian singer. In December 2010, when “Jelena” sparked dating rumours, Hailey was not shy of showing her support for the couple.
Following (Hailey) Baldwin and Bieber's marriage in 2018, the women have been pitted against each other although denying and shutting down any speculation of drama between the two.
In September 2022, during an interview on Call Her Daddy, Hailey publicly stated that it's "all love" between the star and Selena. And in October 2022, the women put feud rumors to rest when they publicly posed for a picture together. More into this later.
THE FULL HISTORY
Sept. 23, 2011, a few months after “Jelena '' was confirmed, Hailey called the couple’s relationship 'teenage dream' - awkwardd.
A few months later, Hailey defended the couple’s romance on Twitter. "I don't care what anyone says but Justin Bieber and Selena Gomez together is the definition of a teenage dream!
#word," she wrote in a since-deleted tweet in September 2011.
Now after about 2 years of an on and off between Jelena, more dating rumours sparked. Except this time between Hailey and Bieber. Mind blown. But of course, these rumours were shut down by the pair.
Now here’s the exciting part. Just after 1 month of Justin serenaded Selena on November 20, 2015, with two romantic ballads, he was seen sharing a new years kiss with Hailey.
Now comes the drama.
During a Rolling Stone interview, Selena was quick to shut down a question about Bieber's 2015 serenade.
"Honestly, what I would love to be printed is that I am so beyond done with talking about that, and him," she responded.
Now during a February 2016 interview with GQ, Bieber comments saying him and Hailey were “not exclusive”. Hailey makes a statement and confirms Bieber’s words.
THE ON AND OFF RELATIONSHIPS
After breaking up with Hailey in 2016, he gets back together with Selena who he in turn breaks up with to become ENGAGED to Hailey.
Back to the podcast I briefly mentioned, during Alex Cooper's Call Her Daddy podcast, Hailey addressed the claim that she stole Bieber from Gomez.
"I can say, period, point blank, I was never with him when he was in a relationship with anybody — that's the end of it," the model/influencer said.
Now this is when we get to the present.
Weeks after Hailey appeared on the podcast, the model and Gomez joined forces at the Academy Museum of Motion Pictures' 2nd annual gala and posed together for a picture.
Now people believed both sides have reunited and settled any drama that took place. All was well, at least that's what the public thought.
On February 14, 2023, Gomez reacted to a TikTok video that implied that Hailey's video, shared in January, was a subtle jab at the singer.
In the clip, Hailey lip-synced to a viral audio alongside two friends, including Kendall Jenner.
The trio mouthed: "I'm not saying she deserved it, but I'm saying God's timing is always right." Though the video made no mention of Gomez, it was deleted shortly after being posted.
When the video was brought to the singer's attention a month later, she was quick to shut down any drama.
"It's ok! I don't let these things get me down! Be nice to everyone! x," Gomez commented.
And that’s where you think it would end. But wrong.
February 22, 2023:
In a now-deleted post, Gomez shared on TikTok that she laminated her brows "too much."
A few hours later, Kylie Jenner posted a selfie on her Instagram Story and wrote: "This was an accident?"
Fans assumed Kylie was throwing shade at Gomez due to strategically placed text over her eyebrows.
After Kylie viewed a video about the alleged drama she commented,
"this is reaching. no shade towards selena ever and I didn't see her eyebrow posts! u guys are making something out of nothing. this is silly."
To which Gomez responded: "Agreed @kyliejenner. It's all unnecessary. I'm a fan of Kylie!"
March 5, 2023:
Amid all the drama, Gomez (Rare Beauty Founder) shared a makeup tutorial on the social-media platform and wrote in the comments section,
"Thank you and love you all so much. I'm deeply grateful for each and every one of you humans. You make me unbelievably happy."
She then added in a second comment,
"Please, please be kinder and consider others mental health. My heart has been heavy and I only want good for everyone. All my love."
And that’s where the story ends, for now.
There is still speculation and theories from fans everywhere, whether Hialey and Justin’s marriage was arranged or whether Justin was quietly referencing Selena in his newest album, we’ll never know.
