Match Preview: The Meringues Face Barcelona in a Special Clash for Spain’s Super Cup Title

Real Madrid and Barcelona supporters are awaiting for a special clash, a new clásico in Saudi Arabia. King Fahd International Stadium will host the final game in Spain’s Super Cup, on Sunday January 15th, 9:00 PM (EEST) and 2:00 PM (EST). After strong games in the semi-finals, Real Madrid and Barcelona qualified for the final, leading to a new clásico for Spain’s Super Cup.


In the semi-finals, Barcelona faced Real Betis in a match ended by equalizing 2-2, and after penalty kicks that ended with 4-2, the Blaugrana was able to qualify for the final. On the other side, Real Madrid faced Valencia and similarly the match ended by equalizing 1-1 and after penalty kicks the Meringues won by 4-3.


Unlike La Liga clásicos, this time the clasico will end by a cup added to the history of one of the 2 clubs, the Meringues -the reigning Super Cup Champions- are seeking to win their 13th title, whereas, the Blaugrana are seeking to get their 14th one and the first title for Xavi with the team.

Team news:


For Real Madrid, Carlo Ancelotti -the team’s coach- have announced the squad for Sunday’s game, the squad missed David Alaba and Aurelien Tchouamini who suffer from calf injury and Lucas Vazquez who suffers from an ankle injury.

Furthermore, Eder Militao was injured during the last game against Valencia in the semi-finals and is a major doubt as a result of a head injury.


For Barcelona there’s no suspensions or injuries in Xavi’s squad.
